The work „Discounter Still Life II“ refers to the painting „Pronkstillleven with fruit and fowl“ (1651) by Abraham Hendricksz. van Beyeren (born 1620 or 1621 in Den Haag; died 1690 in Overschie), one of the most famous Dutch still life painters of his time. The arrangement of the original was reinterpreted in a contemporary approach using food that represents the consumption patterns of today: plastic wrapped discounter goods from overseas bought in cheap supermarkets.
